Dark Waters
Dark Waters
Due to the short time frame, it will not be possible to work out postage costs in advance. This will come later. If you find yourself here by other means Please refer to the latest blog post as to the story behind all of this.
Mild steel hexagons linked together with steel wire. Waxed with 24ct gold leaf gilded edges. This is a very heavy piece.
Without frame it measures 940mm tall by 620mm wide.
Currently no frame, as demonstrated in the photos the steel changes look and depth depending on a light or dark background. I had originally chosen to use a dark background but I feel now trying it out today, that this would only work if hung in a low light place to emphasize the depth. I leave it up to whoever buys it to make the choice. I shall then make a box frame for it.
I made this piece shortly before I herniated my lower back. I was processing a breakup and childhood wounds that had not yet healed. As you look into water in shadow you can get lost in its dark depths. Similar to being lost to the darkness in one’s own mind. If you look too deep you could drown, the backend steel hexagons simbolis this. While around each of their edges there is a life line of gold to help show a route out of the murky depths into the light.
