Pressed Kink #2
Pressed Kink #2
Due to the short time frame, it will not be possible to work out postage costs in advance. This will come later. If you find yourself here by other means Please refer to the latest blog post as to the story behind all of this.
An exploration of abstracted elements, from the kinked womb bowls, relating to the human form in all its creased folds along with its ins and outs.
These tiles have been made by forging (the process given to working hot metal) a shape into a 3mm steel plate. I then gild gold leaf to the detail to efforsize its shape. Gold and steel have a beautiful visual relationship, the dark and the bright, the plain with the exuberant, working class of metal with the eleet.
Gold was used also in Japanese culture before electric lights came about used to bring light to dark spaces and an appreciation to the darkness around it. This was something I found out after making these when pointed to it and I realised I wanted to bring your eye to the darkened steel. There is a subtlety in naturally dark steel that is not celebrated that much in its beauty but place gold with it and that changes. One pulls in the light and the other pushes it back out, a perfect ying and yang.
the tile itself measures about 10cm square making the frame 16cm square
